Happy Birthday from SaraBobNoah. :-)
Dear Mom,
Well, I'm all shook up. My birthday card was returned to sender, and I'm just feeling like a Hound Dog. Crying all the time. I'll never catch a rabbit. But seriously, it's your 70th birthday and we just sent out one little email to just a few people and they were raring to go to tell you how much they love you and feel lucky to have you in their lives. Well, I'm your youngest child, your second daughter and I feel absolutely lucky too. You make me laugh all the time. You show me your love in a million ways. You are always there for me when I need you.
What fun we had cooking in Elizabeth's kitchen for Thanksgiving. We were just a well-oiled-machine-team. I couldn't think of a better coordinator and partner, not just in the kitchen, but everywhere. At the church. At the Society of Arts and Crafts. At the Brookline Arts Center (remember that!?). At the nursing home. At The Brookline Foundation. At All Saints. At the beach. At the family reunion. At Runkle. At playgroup. What a mom.
One of the greatest joys of my life was living in Providence and spending more casual time with you and Dad. I love California, and I love my place here but I wish you two were just around the corner.
Thank you for being who you are. For balancing all of our family out in all the ways you do. I have so many great pictures of you looking at me from your beach chair under a hat. I love to see you relaxing on the beach - and I know that's just where you are now with Dad and his paper puzzles and all your Anguilla buddies. What a perfect place to celebrate a new decade.
I hope you enjoy the website. I know that everyone who contributed was just so pleased to think of you receiving their love. No big 'ting 'mon.
Love you,
Kate.

Dear Mom,
Happy 70th Birthday!
“People born on February 6 are generous, accommodating individuals who are generally liked by everyone they meet. It’s almost impossible not to like them because they have such a winning manner and enthusiastic personality. As a result they are often extremely popular and respected.”
Well, well, well, I would say that fits you to a T. It is always so fun to spend time with you. I remember back when Bruce and I would escape New York City every summer weekend to be in Rhode Island. I would never want to sleep late because it was so fun to wake up early and have coffee with you and discuss whatever was the latest fast breaking news from the Sakonnet Times or to hear of you schedule or just going over the latest fun or funny stories we had to share.
In Brookline, when you walked me and Kate to school on the first day of 4th grade, I saw my friends and let go of your hand and ran ahead to great them. That night I broke down crying because I was so sad that maybe I had hurt your feelings. You just said, “I was a kid once too. I understand you wanted to see your friends.” I still don’t know if you were just making me feel better or you really didn’t mind…you always put our feelings before yours. You woke up early all the way through high school to make us lunch and you kept coming back in to our rooms over and over again to get us up. I remember so well on the third time I would always stand up out of bed and try to pretend like I had been up for a long time even though I had just seconds before been in my warm bed-let.
If you are 70 then that means I am 40! When you turned forty we were all there at the Ritz to surprise you. Then on the way home you and your brother played bumper cars and it was the first time I realized that adults can be a little wacky and crazy.
I could go on and on but…here’s to you Momma Lorch. I can’t wait to plant my chair in the sand at Briggs Beach with you each summer and watch the world go by.
Oceans of love,
Elizabeth
