Dear Jane,
I have looked everywhere for old photos to send and can find nothing even though I know I have
many. But perhaps that is just as well because who needs to be visually reminded of those denim
dress days and/or Dora,Slater Allen or massive summer meals with 5 wandering children on a
rainy day in a tiny weathered house or random parties in a creaky barn or that odd apartment in
Paris that we shared but not together in the same year..how amazing was that?!! Lot of kismet
floating about...so hard to photograph!!
So I am just going to wish you the very happiest and merriest and healthiest of birthdays. You have
always been, and remain, a remarkable friend. Years pass, families grow up and out, cities and
countries change, houses change, we change, but our friendship seems to just be richer for all of
it. You, and your truly glorious family of Steve, Ben, Elizabeth and Kate, are one of the major pillars
in our life. I think the poem below, by William Carlos Williams, captures what I mean:
THE RED WHEELBARROW
so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens.
So here's to 70 years of the great Jane Woodbury Lorch! Have a happy and sun filled birthday!
Much, much love,
Cindy ( and of course Scott)

Dear Jane,
HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY!! I understand you are reading this while soaking in the sun and blue waters (at Blue Waters??) in Anguilla. I’m sure these last 20 years without Kate and me in Anguilla have been challenging but I hope you are able to enjoy yourselves. J
I will drink a rum punch (sans rum) in your honor today.
Sending lots of love to you and can’t wait to see you this summer!
Love,
Lisa Malley

Happy birthday, Jane!
This family of Jane admirers wanted to take a moment to honor your 70th birthday by offering you thanks. Thank you for being so kind and sweet and welcoming every time we see you. Thank you for being such an incredible role model of living a life full of connection. Thank you for your infectious smile and laughter, and most importantly, thank you for thinking that Thea is cool even though she wears her sunglasses at night because she lost her regular glasses in the ocean and because she's blind.
Sending huge birthday hugs and all our love to the foxiest 70 year old we know,
Rachel, Thea and Solomon

Here's what I'd like to say to Jane:
Happy Birthday Jane, all I have to say is you are one of the coolest people out there!
I do hope that when I turn an age that's 30 years older (than I am now) I hope I'm just like you - fun, up for a lunchtime cocktail and an all around good time.
The memories are endless and I know there will be more.
Enjoy your family - especially your grandchildren - stay hip and cool.
with lots of LOVE,
Amanda

Happy Birthday Jane Lorch!
Thank you for the gift of Elizabeth - a beautiful, kind, thoughtful, loyal friend for 3.5 decades (so far!). I love this picture of you from her wedding, and the gift you both gave of flowers from LC for my wedding day still brings tears to my eyes.
Happy 70th!
Love, Mia
